Making a huge change
Oh transitions. Wait do I mean ughhhh transitions.. Maybe I mean both. I will say that I am excited to start this next journey of my life which includes two big changes. Moving to Cleveland and starting my own practice. I’ve now been in Chicago for 8 years which has been an awesome and exciting journey. And before that I was in Ohio for all of the other years of my life. My mind has come to enjoy the fast pace of the city life but I find that my body has missed the slower more grounding space of the smaller city life. Therefore I decided it’s time to let my mind meet my body where it’s at. Cleveland here I come!
The implications
With changes and transition comes many different emotions. Excitement, fear, chaos, happiness, and some sadness. Bitter sweet to say the least. And with all of these emotions comes a lot of questions. Is this the right decision? What have I learned over the last 8 years? Will I be successful? Sometimes these questions can be overwhelming. It’s important to recognize this dialogue and open up space for it instead of dismissing it because of the emotions it might bring up. Writing down the questions and acknowledging emotions can be a great start. These questions don’t necessarily need to be answered. Just getting them onto paper can be helpful. When you have a thought attached to a question, jot that down as well.
What helps with transitions?
Mindfulness can be a huge tool to use in the wake of a transition. Increasing awareness about your emotions and what is going on in your mind can be helpful. Remember, don’t judge your emotions or these questions. This will help to open up space for them and to decrease the uncomfortable emotions from getting even bigger.
