Hi! I’m Shannon, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with experience working with clients in both individual and group therapy. I have been fortunate enough to work in a variety of therapeutic settings and levels of care, including office- and school-based settings, as well as a residential treatment center for adults with eating disorders and a partial hospitalization program for teens with suicidal ideation.
I specialize in treating adult and adolescent clients who are navigating anxiety, depression, eating disorders, gender identity, and trauma. My approach to therapy is to meet clients where they are and to do so with curiosity, empathy, and authenticity. The therapeutic alliance can be a transformative relationship and must be built on a foundation of grounded, compassionate respect; I strive to create a space where humans feel safe to be themselves, feel safe to experience their emotions, and feel safe to grow and flourish even when there is fear of change and the unknown.
I believe being kind to ourselves is a revolutionary act and that the practice of self-compassion is an essential element in any type of recovery; therefore, I focus on a client’s strengths while helping to teach new skills that will foster confidence, kindness, and love for themselves. My primary modes of therapy are DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and person-centered, with a little bit of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). My approach is also informed by IFS (Internal Family Systems).
In my spare time I enjoy reading and writing, listening to musical theatre soundtracks, drawing flowers, and luring my cat, Violet, out from under the couch with treats. I also love my friends and spending time with them chatting, drinking tea, eating pastries, or searching estate sales for furniture I can refinish.
